Making this recording

On Monday 8th September at a remote bay on the rugged coast of North Cornwall , four heavily laden figures tramped over the sands towards a deep sea cave.  For a little over two hours as the incoming tide crept steadily towards the entrance and rain fell on the deserted beach, the dark, dripping rocks within the cave resonated to the voices of two women chanting.

Sacred, timeless, full of our love for this beautiful land of Kernow and the wild ocean that surrounds it, this recording is the result.  As far as possible it is a true account of the session, with the minimum of production; Baz digitally captured what we sang in the cave that day.

However, the amazing technology that allowed us to record in such an extreme location also manifested as a host of naughty, clicking gremlins.  Cunning sound engineer type jiggery-pokery was invoked by Baz to banish them, and also to retrieve and enhance material that would otherwise have been un-usable.

Our breath, background noises, and indeed our silences, are consequently an inherent part of this live recording; also the unique resonance of that particular cave, the splashing and dripping of water, seagulls, and above all the voice of the sea herself coming ever closer.  Listen, as her low roar grows more and more insistent, we left the cave only just in time!

Forgive the odd stumble; we really were chanting, not performing.  It was our Rite, and our act of magic and devotion; we all wanted you to hear it the way the cave did, on that special day.

Blessed Be
